Around 1826 or 1827, Niépce produced "View from the Window at Le Gras," widely recognized as the world's first photograph. In 1851, Frederick Scott Archer introduced the wet collodion process, which combined the sharpness of daguerreotypes with the reproducibility of calotypes. This process involved coating glass plates with collodion (a solution of nitrocellulose), sensitizing them with silver nitrate, exposing them while still wet, and developing immediately.
Wet plate photography dominated the history of photography for nearly three decades.
